Should there be limits on who can wear a swimsuit? Most people would say, “Absolutely not!” — except for my daughter-in-law Janice, who seems to think otherwise.
After a trip to Miami Beach with my husband Donald, I felt younger and more loved than ever. One day, I put on a black two-piece, and Donald kept showering me with compliments. A little girl even snapped a photo of us sharing a sweet moment, which I later posted on Facebook.
But then came a hurtful comment from Janice:
“Seriously? How can she even think about showing off that wrinkled body in a swimsuit?! She looks disgusting!”
Instead of letting it go, I came up with a plan. I suggested we host a family barbecue. When Janice finally showed up, I used the opportunity to share the photo and explained that it symbolized love growing stronger with age. I also showed everyone her hurtful comment, emphasizing the importance of kindness and the truth that we all grow older.
After that, Janice apologized and admitted she was wrong. It’s hard to deal with age-shaming — especially from your own family — but wrinkles and gray hairs are the marks of a life well lived.
What do you think about this?
